Embracing My Life

Embracing My Life is not normal. The natural tendency is to Create My Life. Fortunately, the creating has already been done by God. We are human beings made in his image and likeness. We each have a one-of-a-kind blend of our unique personage, passions, and abilities. We are like no other, nor designed to be as any other.  We are to embrace our own lives. In the words of the Psalmist, “You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:13).

Embracing My Life is hindered when we try to be someone else. Or, sadly, when we try to live our life through another person: a super hero, famous actor, sports star, political icon or religious saint. Some choices are better than others, but all are misguided. We can only be authentically ourselves.

Many are the tools offered to help us know ourselves. They are often helpful, but not adequate. As has been said, “The better we know God, the better we know ourselves. The better we know ourselves, the better we know God.”  Embracing my life is to know God, and to know whom he created us to be.

Three premises: 1. God knows you for he created you; 2. God wants you to know Him and why he created you; and 3. God can communicate that information to you.  That is the life you are called to embrace.
